A three-storey semi-detached dwelling known locally as Many Waters, on the grounds of the old St. John’s Foundry at Enniscorthy, was completely destroyed by an outbreak of fire around 7 am. Enniscorthy Fire Service attended the scene.
The house has a distinguished history. In the 1890’s a member of the Davis family was given a piece of waste ground opposite St. John’s (Davis) Mills and set up St. John’s Foundry which opened in 1908 and continued to operate into the 1960’s.
Many Waters used to be a landmark building, but is now surrounded by vegation and occupies a secluded location by the bank of the River Urrin.
