EVENTING- Back To Back Wins For Granuaile

Day Two of the “Stepping Stones To Success Eventing League” took place at the Wexford Equestrian Centre on Wednesday.

The 4yo section, sponsored by Top Spec and Shires Equestrian, was a repeat of last week as Greenhall Granuaile (224.5), ridden by Sarah Ennis, took the class ahead of the Heidi Hamilton ridden Johan-Some (218). The winner is owned by Joan O’Connor, bred by Derry Rothwell and the breeder was certainly a happy man as the dam, Greenhall Indicator, had a filly foal by Mermus R only hours earlier.

Rahale Robin (217.5), owned and ridden by Ann Lambert took third place, the attractive son of Robin De La Maison, out of the Cavalier Royale mare, Lady Sorrento, scored the highest mark in the jumping section on the day.

International Event Rider, Nicky Roncoroni, now based in Kilkenny, won the 5yo section, sponsored by Top Spec and Shires Equestrian, with her mother’s, Poynstown Braeve (221.5). The chestnut gelding by Clover Flush, out of the Chillout mare, Poynstown Amy, was a 27,000 euro purchase at the 2016 Go For Gold Sale.

Sarah Ennis took the runner-up slot with Stellor Quick Change (219), the Olympic Lux gelding reached the final of the 4yo Young Event Horse Class in last year’s Dublin Horse Show.

Third place went to last week’s winner, Kilcandra Vanessa (215), the Orestus mare was ridden by her owner, Aoife Quigley.

The Pony section, sponsored by Sandra Borssim’s Oulartleigh Stud, was won by the Killian Murphy ridden Anne Fields Hector (199), the 6yo made it back to back wins for the Kilkenny rider.

Gorey rider, Dale Adams, filled the runner-up spot again this week with her 5yo, Cha Cha Cha (196) and Jennifer Kuehnle took third place with Tullibards Sixth Sense (189.5)

Destination Street, owned and ridden by Izzy Leadbitter, won the Willie Mullins sponsored Thoroughbred Class, the 5yo gelding is by Thewayyouare out of the Halling mare, Do The Deal.

Test Pilot, ridden by Rachel Wall took the runner up spot; a young rider she is a first cousin to Esib Power, International Event Rider, and National Hunt jockey, Robbie Power. The 6yo Getaway gelding was placed in a Market Rasen bumper and last ran in the ownership of Mrs John Magnier, D Smith, and M Tabor.

The 10yo Presenting gelding, Our Commander, ridden by Vincent Kilduff took third place on the day, he won a 6yo maiden in Stradbally back in 2014.

The next leg of the series takes place on Wednesday the 11th of April.
