Jamie Codd beats Barry O’Neill in Cheltenham thriller

Mayglass jockey Jamie Codd continued his fantastic Cheltenham Festival record when winning for the eighth time in the final race of the day – the National Hunt Chase on Le Breuil (14/1) for English trainer Ben Pauling on the opening day of the 2019 festival.
In a pulsating finish Codd’s mount held on by half a length to deny Paul Nolan’s Enniscorthy stables hopeful Discorama with jockey Barry O’Neill up.
Le Breuil was prominent throughout as plenty of horses bowed out early and only four managing to finish the gruelling four mile trip.
“It was a real war of attrition out there. I was very fortunate to be booked for the ride by Mr Pauling, and I’m delighted to get another Cheltenham winner,” said a delighted Jamie Codd, who added; “I kept Le Breuil wide which seemed to pay off, but he was so tough and just kept going.”
