Gorey 11

Gorey travelled away this weekend to play Trinity in the latest league fixture and came out on top with an 11-Nil victory. Gorey completely overpowered the Dublin girls who battled hard despite having only 9 of the 11 players. Sarah Merrigan kicked off the scoring with a well struck shot through a good passage of passing up midfield (0-1).  Gorey’s Muireann Deegan intercepted a hit out at half way and got Gorey’s second (0-2).  Winger Zoe Kenny popped in 2 goals of her own to end the first half (0-4).
Nicola Ryan was unlucky not to score on her birthday when her goal was disallowed deeming the shot from a short corner was too high.
After the break, Gorey were in excellent scoring form putting a stunning 7 more past the Trinity keeper. Muireann Deegan had an awesome first 15 minutes scoring 3 goals in quick succession, one of which was an excellent solo run through the heart of Trinity’s defense. The third goal from Muireann was a shot on her reverse up into the net, her fourth and final goal was right on target coming from great passing play. Muireann Deegan was very unlucky not to score a few more but hit the post 3 times. Sarah Merrigan added to the score card with two more goals for her hat-trick, one from a scramble in front of goal and the third as Trinity backed away, giving Sarah ample time to shoot. Zoe Kenny scored her third goal when a well weighted pass coming across goal.
Ailbhe Booth scored Gorey’s final goal of the day, which came from Gorey’s passing play up the pitch with a well struck shot from the top of the circle.  Saturday’s game was one of a great team performance leaving the girls high on confidence going into next weekend’s League and Cup games respectively against North Kildare and Dublin North.
