Cllr Paddy Kavanagh received the support of his fellow members to ask Minister John Paul Phelan, who has responsibility for Local Government and Electoral Reform to reconsider boundary changes in the Wexford constituency at today’s monthly meeting of Enniscorthy Municipal District Council.

The matter arose out of the creation of a Kilmuckridge electoral area consisting of four members that will share its affairs with another district.
The Local Boundary Area Committee No. 1 Report published last summer recommended that Enniscorthy and Kilmuckridge would be amalgamated to make a 10-seater Municipal District, however, a Statutory Instrument on December 19th indicated that Kilmuckridge would be amalgamated to Gorey making it the largest Municipal District in the county.
This would mean that Enniscorthy would only have six seats on the 34-member Council.
Cllr Kavanagh is calling on the Minister to abide by last June’s recommendation and is asking the Minister to reconsider the change and bring Kilmuckridge back into the Enniscorthy area.
Cllr Kavanagh’s proposal was seconded by Cllr Keith Doyle.
